3.933m tons of wheat procured

ISLAMABAD, June 21: The wheat procurement has so far been recorded at 3.835 million tons, showing 83.16 per cent achievement against the target of 4.73 million tons set by the government for the current year.

According to the latest wheat procurement figures, Punjab province has so far procured 2.433 million tons against the target of 3.5 million tons.

In Sindh province, about 0.5 million tons of wheat has been procured against the target of 0.5 million tons.

PASSCO has so far procured 0.99 million tons against the allocated target of 1.2 million tons.

The government has set a target of 4.73 million tons for wheat procurement during the current year to help the farmers get reasonable price of their produce.

The total wheat production has been estimated over 21.1 million tons, surpassing the target of 20.1 million tons during the year 2003-04.

Wheat has been sown over an area of 8.33 million hectares during the year 2004-05 and it is expected that production would be around 22.00 million tons.
