HYDERABAD: A vast portion of the IT section at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), city branch, was destroyed by a fire that broke out on Monday evening.

The IT section is located on the first floor of the hospital.

Firefighters rushed to the site and extinguished it. No loss of life was reported.

LUH medical superintendent (MS) Wahab Wadhu said that the IT section was destroyed by the fire but he left an assessment of the damage to the local NICVD management.

Additional MS Dr Naeem Zia said that apparently the fire was caused by an electrical short-circuit. However, he added, an inquiry could establish the actual cause.

The NICVD has been running LUH’s cardiology department since its inauguration in December last year by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
