Penev clinches title at ITF Juniors

ISLAMABAD: Ivan Penev of Bulgaria beat Pakistan’s Huzaifa Abdul Rehman to clinch the ITF Pakistan Junior Tennis Championships boys singles title here at the PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.

Huzaifa won the first set by breaking Penev’s sixth and eighth game. The Bulgarian took the winning 3-1 lead by breaking Huzaifa’s third game in the second set.

Huzaifa leveled the score 3-3 but Penev won the second set 6-4 by breaking the former’s ninth game.

The final set was marked with aces, long rallies and the score went up to 3-3 as both the players held their respective serves but Penev eventually won it 6-4.

The match lasted 1 hour 53 minutes. Penev gained valuable 30 ITF points while Huzaifa got 18 ITF points along with winning shields.

Mina Toglukdemir and Sara Yigin’s pair bagged the girls doubles title by beating Iran’s Melina Mehrani and Meshkatulzahra Safi in another three-set final.

Results:

Boys singles final: Ivan Penev (BUL) bt Huzaifa Abdul Rehman (PAK) 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Girls doubles final: Mina Toglukdemir (TUR)/Sara Yigin (GER) bt Melina Mehrani/ Meshkatulzahra Safi (IRAN) 6-2, 6-7 (3), 10-8.
