HARIPUR/CHITRAL: Speakers at functions marking the Iqbal Day on Friday paid rich tributes to the poet and philosopher for instilling spirit of revolution and freedom among the people of the subcontinent.

At two different ceremonies held in Sir Syed Model School and College and Government Higher Secondary School, No 1, Haripur, the speakers highlighted the role of Allama Mohammad Iqbal for inculcating the spirit of revolution and freedom among the people of the subcontinent.

The speakers, including Prof Qazi Atiqur Rehman, additional deputy commissioner Syed Saiful Islam, assistant commissioner Mujtaba Arafat and district officer education Umar Kundi, said not only the people of subcontinent but Afghans, Iranians and Arabs were motivated by the messages of Iqbal and launched struggle for their freedoms.

They said the present day challenges that Pakistan was facing required the entire nation to follow the teachings of Iqbal.

Meanwhile, the Iqbal Day was celebrated in different educational institutions, including the University of Chitral and Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Chitral, in which the speakers highlighted the revolutionary messages of the poet philosopher whose poetry changed the course of history.

In Chitral University, the function was addressed by Dr Tajuddin and director academics Dr Ziaul Haq, while the students expressed their views about different aspects of the poetry of Allama Iqbal.

The function held in the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, principal Tufail Nawaz and coordinator of students clubs and societies,

Atta Hussain Athar, presented special papers on the contribution of Iqbal as dreamer of a separate homeland for the Muslims.

In both the functions, the selected poems of Iqbal were presented by the students in chorus amid drumbeats and playing of other musical instruments which enthralled the audience.
