SUKKUR, June 20: A three-day polio eradication campaign, being launched throughout the district from June 21, was inaugurated by District Naib Nazim Iqbal Dawood here on Monday by administering polio drops to children up to five years of age. Speaking on the occasion, the naib nazim appealed to people from all walks of life to cooperate with polio teams during the drive.
He stressed that since it was a national cause, it was imperative upon every citizen to supplement the government effort and ensure that no child was left unattended. Even the small isolated desert areas of Salehpat ought to be covered during the campaign, he added.
Sukkur Taluka Nazim Kazim Ali Shah said that with the combined efforts of the federal and district governments, Sukkur had maintained the status of a polio-free district for three years.
WHO representative Agha Samiullah said that two polio cases were reported in Sindh during the current year; one from Larkana and the other from Sanghar, which gave a clear message of remaining on high alert against the disease.
