NAB recovers nearly Rs330 million from former govt officer's Lahore residence

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has recovered nearly Rs330 million from the Lahore residence of a former government officer, a statement issued by the corruption watchdog said on Friday.

The bureau carried out a raid at the house of the grade-16 former government official, located in Lahore's EME society, after receiving a tip-off about him.

"Approximately Rs330m that had allegedly been hidden were recovered during the raid on the house," the NAB statement said.

The bureau is currently keeping the suspect's identity secret "so as not to impede the acquisition of additional evidence".

According to the NAB statement, the mammoth amount recovered from the official's residence includes Rs100m in Pakistani rupees, Rs170m in the form of prize bonds, and nearly Rs35m in the form of 11 foreign currencies.

The bureau said it is also carrying out an inquiry regarding proofs of extensive properties allegedly owned by the suspect.

The director general of NAB Lahore has directed that an inquiry be immediately started against the suspect for allegedly owning assets beyond known means of income, the statement added.

Grade 16 is the lowest rank of the officer. Imagine what higher ranks are doing to this country. I believe this civil service system devised by the English rulers have miserably failed. Pakistan should abolish this civil service system and adopt Canadian or US model. Why you are hiding the name of the officer.

Shameful. NAB must keep on digging up more such cases and recovering the nation's looted wealth. This is only one case of a grade 16 officer, there are thousands of such officers in the civil and military who need to be investigated and unmasked.

We want to know where all the recovered money go after the pictures are being taken. We have been listening to the recovery by NAB for ages, the thing is where does this money go and who will do the accountability of NAB to find out that the amount mentioned is the actual amount being confiscated.

How do we know if this belongs to the owner of the house? Lot of money has been found in accounts that nobody knows about. Soon we will hear that the charges have been dropped in the public interest. Nab finds lot of wrongdoing but nobody get punished because NAB and the embezzlers are part of the same extended family.

what is so big about this recovery. Rs. 80 crore were recovered from a Federal Govt. Officer's residence in Balochistan. He owned several properties in Karachi posh area. What happen to him and that money. This is Pakistan and nothing happen how big the crime is.

He may be a pawn for others used as safe deposit box. The seizure which includes foreign currency points towards a possibility that this huge amount may have come from sale of narcotics, which is a hot business now a days in Pakistan. Corruption is a two way trade, the money is always paid as a service charge which is a percentage of gain a person makes through corrupt practices. In this case a grade 16 officer had no authority to provide such a service but could be acting as a conduit for other seniors with authority being used as a frontman in mega corruption deals. The declaration of NAB, keeping his idendity secret points toward their aim & objectives to catch the big fish making billion plus in such corrupt practices. This huge cash of black money stashed away & hidden in a house, clearly shows the reach & complexity of corruption in our society. Since this catch was made possible with the help of an informer - a colleague or coworker, the NAB should use such venues for future too

Well done NAB: please also keep a close eye on the account officers especially District account officers to ensure they do not hold assets beyond legitimate means. All current District account officers and those appointed in the last five years should be asked to provide details of their and their family members assets.

These organizations like Karachi Municipal Corporation ( KMC ), Karachi Port Trust ( KPT ) Karachi Development Authority ( KDA ) were famous for the bribes. Customs Department in Karachi was the corruption hub. People took Government jobs with very low salaries to make big money in bribes. This is no secret.
