KARACHI, June 19: The Karachi Flour Mills Association has announced to supply “Atta” (wheat flour) to Karachiites at Rs12.50 per kg, 100kg bag at ex-mill Rs1,000 and 10kg bag ex-mill Rs130.

The announcement came from the association at a meeting chaired by Mian Mohammed Akbar on Saturday.

The association said this decision had been taken to stabilize the flour prices by the representative body of flour millers and protect people and food department from flour mills indulging in black mailing practices.

Earlier, the meeting considered matters relating to prices and movement of wheat. The meeting appreciated the policies being pursued by Sindh Food Adviser Murtaza Jatoi and the agriculture department.

It also called for an action against flour mills trying to create artificial wheat flour price crisis in Karachi.

The meeting discussed mistakes and wrong policies of the past like illegal categorization of flour mills, unjust distribution of wheat quota and to protect the industry from certain mill owners having vested interests and the broker mafia.
