Imran’s visit to China will open new chapter of cooperation: Beijing

BEIJING: The Chinese foreign ministry on Monday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming visit to China would provide an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to open a new chapter of development of bilateral relations under new circumstances.

Mr Khan will visit China from Nov 2 on the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang and President Xi Jinping.

He will also attend China International Import Expo (CIIE) being held in Shanghai, Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson Lu Kang said during his regular briefing here.

During the visit, Mr Khan would hold talks with President Xi and Premier Li, the spokesperson said.

He said the two sides would have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral ties and cooperation and issues of common interests.

Pakistan will participate in the CIIE as the guest of honour. Mr Khan will attend the opening ceremony of the CIIE and deliver a keynote speech.

The Chinese official expressed the confidence that relations between China and Pakistan would not be affected by a change in international and the domestic situations.

Pakistan needs more manufacturing industries. Specially, high value, high tech., less polluting industries that can produce export-oriented products. That would add value to export related production and create more jobs for skilled labours and professionals. More industries, more jobs, more export, more foreign exchange earnings and resulting in less reliance on IMF and other loaners, more prosperity and better standard of living for Pakistanis.

China has duped Pakistan in all projects under CPEC. China's investment in $46 bn in the ongoing projects is meager $11bn ie about 20% and rest 80% will be repaid by Pakistan subsequently. The Senate has already been informed that 91% revenues generated at Gwadar port would go to China for next 40 years and rest 10% to port authorities which is totally unfair keeping in view that 80% cost of projects is borne by Pakistan. Some foreign agencies have reported that projects given to Chinese private companies are at exorbitant rates almost twice the open market rates which drastically increases the loans amount to be paid back to China. This entire CPEC project, China is the major beneficiary and Pakistan is only getting crumbs. Imran Khan during his visit to China should seriously negotiate to convert major part of Chinese loans into grants otherwise Pakistan will face unprecedented debt crisis.

Teachings for IK before visiting China. 1) Investment :- Putting funds in business with returns as profit-sharing only. Generally long term funds with lock in period well defined. 2) Loan:- Putting funds in business with returns as interest which is well defined in percentage. Generally short term or medium term which is repayable (called principal amount) on due date (of course over and above the interest) with well defined penalty clause in the event of default in payment of interest or principal. All the best for the visit.

I donot think there will be much to gain...chinese will arm twist because they knows the condition and impact of this will show after next 5 years...if politicians are really serious they have to work internally to make economy strong rather then running around....Modi visited several countries but have not able to get much investments....Key is grow internally and then you can sit with others on table...going here and there will be make shift planning to douse the immediate fire....

IK must stand by his own industrialists, workers, contractors, transporters who have been ruined by Chinese policy of invasion of Pak.IK must be aupported by commons if raise his voice for jobs and balance of trade with China. IK should not be afraid of Chinese loby in Pak.
