Anjum Niaz

ANJUM Niaz was an excellent writer and a most read columnist. Her writings were bold and eloquent and her vocabulary communicative. Important domestic matters, as well as international issues, would be the topics in her pieces.

In her death Dawn readers have lost a journalist who possessed a humane and democratic approach to life. I first met her in the mid-nineties about the publication of my article. She was gracious enough to read my article and asked me to rewrite some of the lines. However, I did not change those lines as I considered them very important.

Later I realised she was right. Had I rephrased those words, my article would have been published and done me proud . She was very polite, understanding and intelligent. With a remarkable insight into the lives of leaders, important men as well as common people she expressed herself candidly.

I can surely say she will be remembered by Dawn readers, colleagues and journalists for a long time to come.
