QUETTA: Stressing on the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), experts, industrialists and government officials were of the view that it will promote youth employment and help in reducing poverty.

These views were shared on Wednesday during the annual meeting of the Balochistan Skill Advisory Forum established last year in collaboration with the TVET Sector Programme, funded by the European Union, Germany and Norway.

The Labour and Manpower Department had notified about the forum in April last. It serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges and opportunities pertaining to TVET programmes and labour market, and provide solutions to these.

The forum advocates a paradigm shift from traditional methods of training and vocational education to Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A)

Additional Chief Secretary Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta addressing the opening session of the meeting said: “Technical and Vocational Education and Training is an integral discipline of education, training and learning activity that helps beneficiaries secure skilled jobs or opt for self-employment”.

Head of the Gems and Jewellery Training and Manufacturing Company (GJTMC) in Quetta, Bashir Agha highlighted the support they have been provided by the TVET Sector Support Programme (SSP) in reforming and aligning their training methodologies to the nationally recognised training system of Pakistan.

Annexing Palestine

Annexation would reveal the pious incantations of Western politicians for what they are — impotent drivel at best, and cynical cant at worst.
