Bahria College, Army Public School triumph

KARACHI: Several matches were decided on Sunday in the ongoing Prof Hashmatullah Lodhi Inter-School Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament being organized by Nasir Academy in collaboration with KBBA here at Arambagh courts on Sunday.

In the A Levels category, Bahria College beat South Shore 33-11. Jasim scored (10 points), Zain (9 points) and Saleel (8 points) were the scorers for the winners while for Shouth Shore, Aga Hussain and Shayan Ali scored (7 points) and (4 points) respectively.

In the second match, Pak Steel Cadet College beat Lyceum comprehensively 45-12. Brilliant Israr Ali (20 points), Muzammil (15 points) and Shabbir Hussain (4 points) were the leading scorers for the winners. Wajihullah (6 points and Shane Ali (2 points) were the scorers for the Lyceum.

In third and last match of the day, St. Pat’s School outclassed The City School (Darakhshan Chapter) outclassed 19-0. Christopher (17 points) led the team to victory while his teammate M Ali scored 2 points.

In A Level Girls competitions, Lyceum overcame Indus Academy 22-15. Ayesha Ijlal of yhe winners scored magnificent (15 pints) while Shahbama 4 and Iman 4 were the other scores for the winners. For Indus Academy Sara Khan scored (11 points) and Hiba 2 points.

Meanwhile, in O’ Levels contests, Army Pubic School beat The City Drakhshan Chapter 22-10. Danish (8 points) Adnan Ai (8 points) were the scorers for the winners. For The City (DK) Abdullah scored (4 points) and Moeed (3 points.

In other match, Indus Academy beat Beaconhouse (North Nazimabad) 25-5. Dada (11 points) and Abdullah (4 points) for the winners. For Beacon house Kenneth (4 goals) was the leading scorer.

In O-Level Girls competitions, Indus Academy beat Beaconhouse (North Nazimabad) 16-0. Efa Aman (8 points) and Sara (4 points) led their team to victory. —Agencies

Khurram, Shahrukh hit fifties

KARACHI: Brothers Khurram Asim and Shahrukh Asim hit half-centuries to power Nazir Hussain Gymkhana into quarter-finals of the KCCA Zone-I Challenge Cup T20 Cricket Tournament with a six-wicket win against Hamdam CC at the SBP Sports Complex the other day.

Opener Khurram bludgeoned a hurricane 87 off just 28 deliveries while striking eight sixes and seven fours and captain Shahrukh hit an unbeaten 53 in 33 balls with four sixes and three fours as Nazir Gymkhana chase down a target of 203 for in only the 17th over.

Earlier, Hamdam CC posted a competitive 202-2 thanks to an opening stand of 128 between Salman Khan (75 off 53 balls, five fours and three sixes) and Abdul Rehman (87 off 54 balls, 13 fours and two sixes).

Meanwhile in another match, Kashan CC beat Gulistan CC by seven wickets.

Afghan Club, Army win in PPFL

LAHORE: Afghan Club Chaman thrashed Ashraf Sugar Mills (ASML) 4-0 while Army beat

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) 3-0 in their Pakistan Premier Football League matches here at the Punjab Stadium on Monday.

Abdul Raheem broke the deadlock for Afghan club after 33 minutes, a lead that remained until the end of the first half. ASML were defensively poor in the second half and were punished in the 67th, 73rd and 80th minute marks through Iftikhar Ahmad, Amanullah and Umer Daraz respectively.

Army were dominant against the KPT from the word go. Ansar Abhas gave the eventual winners the lead in the 12th minute while Mateen and Ali Raza scored in the 44th and 65th minutes to ensure victory. KPT, however, lacked attacking threat.

The current edition of the PPFL, the first after three years due to turmoil in the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), is featuring 16 teams after four teams were promoted via a sudden playoff before the start of the season — a move that is a contravention of the FIFA Statutes that call for proper system of promotion and relegation between league tiers.—Sports Reporter

Seeded players advance

LAHORE: All seeded players sailed through to the second round of the EBM Pakistan Tennis Championship with ease here at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Academy courts on Monday.

Seasoned campaigner and top seed Aqeel Khan bulldozed Ahmad Baber 6-1, 6-2 to uphold his supremacy. Aqeel worked just for 16 minutes on the court to wrap up the victory.

Mohammad Abid, however, faced some resistance from upcoming Huzaifa Abdul Rehman — who has showed remarkable performances in the recently. Huzaifa was difficult to handle for Abid in the first set before losing the encounter 4-6, 0-6.

Saqib Hayyat had to struggle hard to beat spirited Mian Bilal in a thrilling three-setter 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(5). After being locked at 1-1, the game could have gone in either player’ favour till 6-6 in the third setter, where Saqib edged out his fighting rival to heave the sigh of relief.

Hyderabad win SSB basketball

TANDO JAM: Hyderabad district edged past Mirpurkhas 46-43 to win the final of the SSB Trophy Shaheed-e-Millat basketball tournament which was organised by Pakistan Sports Welfare Association (PSWA) at the SAU Ground in Tando Jam Agricultural University.

Leading scorers for the winners were Syed Shoaib (17 points) and Uzair (11 points). For Mirpurkhas, Haris scored (18 points) and Saad (7 points).

Advance Seed Corporation MD Athar Ali Khanzada was the chief guest in the final while KBBA president Ghulam Mohammad and Director Sports-cum-chief organizer Anwar Khanzada were the guests of honour at the concluding ceremony and gave away trophies and prizes to the respective captains of winners and runners-up teams as also to individual players for good display of talent in the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Athar hoped that such events will be held on regular basis to unearth talent and promote the same.

KBBA informed that on Nov 20 exhibition basketball matches will be played in which Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas teams will take part.

Director Sports Anwar Khanzada said Sindh is rich in talent and more events will polish the skills of the players.— Agencies
