ISLAMABAD, June 17: Condemning the suspensions of seven Punjab MPAs and government’s inability to restrain Punjab and Sindh governments from victimising political rivals, the combined opposition in the National Assembly on Friday announced that it would chalk out a joint strategy to seek acceptance of its demands.

Speaking at a joint news conference at parliament house after boycotting the NA proceedings, the opposition leaders said that the prime minister and interior minister were helpless in tackling the issues.

The opposition comprising ARD, MMA and other parties condemned suspension of seven more Punjab MPAs while the federal government was not doing anything.

Raja Parvez Ashraf, secretary-general of PPP Parliamentarians, Liaquat Baloch, deputy secretary-general of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Tehmina Daultana, vice president of PML(N), JUI leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri were present at the news conference.

They said that while the government had failed to meet its demand of setting up a parliamentary committee to investigate into victimisation, it also failed to provide any satisfactory response to these complaints.

Referring to the heart stroke suffered by Dr A. Q. Khan, the opposition alleged that he was ‘being eliminated’ under American influence.

They said no murderer in Karachi’s target killings had been arrested so far which spoke volumes about the inability of the government to provide protection to its citizens.
