SAHIWAL: A motor vehicle examiner (MVE) along with a tout and departmental clerk were arrested on Wednesday on corruption and bribery charges.

A district administration team conducted a raid at the local vehicle examiner’s office on Arifwala Road. Dera Rahim police claimed that a case had been registered against MVE Ulfat Rasool, peon Imran Nazir and Inamullah on the complaint of Head Constable Karam Ali on Tuesday night.

There were dozens of public complaints regarding the involvement of the MVE in corruption and that she would issue fitness certificate to unfit public and private vehicles by taking bribes.

District Commissioner Muhammad Zaman Wattoo constituted a special three-member inspection team to raid the examiner’s office. The team found MVE Rasool, her tout Inam and peon Nazir openly taking bribe from public transport vehicle owners and issuing them fitness certificate without following departmental terms of reference.

The raiding team confiscated all records and arrested Nazir, tout Inam along with revenue tickets worth Rs165,000 and bribe money worth Rs46,000. The office head clerk escaped from the scene.

The raiding team also found out that the MVE had allocated a special room to her tout Inam, who was selling revenue tickets and collecting money from clients.

Police booked the MVE and peon under Section 14 of the MPO and tout under Section 13 of the MPO. Dera Rahim police are conducting raids to arrest the head clerk.
