Pakistan, who won the toss and opted to bat, were bowled out for 282 in their first innings on the first day of the second Test in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Debutant Fakhar Zaman and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed both scored 94 and togther added 147 for the sixth wicket after Pakistan were jolted by spinner Nathan Lyon with four wickets off six balls in the first session.

Lyon finished with 4-79 while leg-spinner Marnus Labuschagne took 3-45.

The first Test ended in a draw.

This is what I feared the most. They have tasted blood in last test match. And this is Australia. Now everything depends on Australian 1st innings. If they take a lead of more than 100, then we are up for another unpleasant result.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan , yup, Asad Shafiq, another from Karachi and a close friend of Sarfraz threw his wicket too. May he is next in line to become test skipper hence he want's Sarfraz gone as well.

The blessings in disguise is that if the Australian off-spinner can take four wickets in the first session and on the first day of the 2nd test match between green-shirts and Kangaroos in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., talented, budding and upcoming green-shirts off-spinner Bilal Asif has the dynamic abilities and outstanding traits to turn the tables on his opponents too. However, first, they must put some decent score on the board. Let's wait and see what happens next?

If Pakistan wins this match, it will be a bad day, because that will give Sarfraz an excuse to stay on. He is bad for the morale of the team, is childish, is annoying to the team and the opposition for constant shouting. Anybody can score few runs once in a while, to be a good Captain one must be able to lead from the front.

@wsyed I agree. Sarfraz might make the team as a middle order batsmen, but as captain most definitely not. He picks failed bowlers like riaz and amir again and again. I have 100 times seen Shenwari bowling his heart out, and Sarfraz always looks for one mistake from him, and then starts mouthing off. Hypocrisy. A fast bowler always makes a good captain. Imran, Ian Botham, the great Wasim. Get Junaid Khan in, he is a diamond bowler.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan , Hafeez got out to freak catch which will probably be dropped 99 out of 100 times. Haris got one which doesn't turn so I would count him as unlucky too but Hafeez, Imam, Haris, Abbas and Bilal were best performers of first test and all of them are Punjabis. Sarfraz and Karachi based players have already used "Karachi card" for too long now. How Anwar Ali or Sami played all those matches when people like Bilawal Bhatti and Amir Yameen were wasted on bench is well beyond me, Sarfraz should have been sacked on same day Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka 2-0 in UAE. I would gladly see him continue ODIs till 2019 despite the recent Asia cup debacle because he is still the best person to do so. He doesn't merit a place in T20 side and certainly not as a test skipper. Should stop playing T20's and give up his place as skipper of test side but continue playing as a player.

I hate some people blame only Sarfraz for everything. What about remaining guys who are failing very often?? Don't they have any responsibilities? Come on... Captain can play only to one level. Team also has to chip in. Captain alone cannot make miracle.

This days the way pakistan fails on home pitch is quite surprising. If you see all other teams, they play wonderful and are unbeatble on home soil. Hope pakistan fights back in bowling. Those qho question indias performance in recwnt past must check the rankings. Yes india failed in england but have qon last 10 series on home soil. Out of 29 test matches in india 25 matches india have won & that is wonderful record friends.

282 all out does not sound that bad as compared to 57 for five. A great recovery by Sarfraz and Zaman. After taking two Australian wickets, the test is in balance now. It would have an icing on cake, had Zaman scored a century on his debit.

Brilliant recovery. I am sure Sarfraz and Micky Arthur would have bite the hand of anyone offering them 282 after 57/5. This pitch is probably offering more to bowlers than the Dubai one but Pakistan should never have lost 5 for 57. Usman's wicket is a huge plus for Abbas who looks like a gem. If someone swings and seams like that in UAE, he will be handful in South Africa. Get finch early, get into fragile middle order of Aussies and you never know. Nicely balanced day of test cricket.

@Waseem Sarwar the issue is Sarfraz and his defensive fielding placements. When Lyon was bowling he had a short leg, gully and a slip. This is day one, in Dubai. The aussie captain brilliantly told sarfraz how you set the field for your primary spin bowler and take wickets. He backs his bowlers. Sarfraz's issue is that he picks poor bowlers such as riaz. When the good ones bowl, he shouldn't be defensive. It ruins their confidence.

All those going after Sarfraz captaincy need a reminder about best in the world captain Azhar and the doom he brought. Now anyone with a tiny knowledge of cricket knows that in UAE you always bat first. About time players like Hafeez & Azhar need to go. Pakistani players need to be kept under the thumb, otherwise they get complacent and lazy, esp. during fielding. They also don't stick to the plan during batting & fielding. Micky & Sarfraz are trying to control the mess of parchi players. Fitness, planning & discipline only name of the game! Not parchi! Kudos for the Captain for not caving to undue external pressure from uneducated masses who only appreciate parchi and lazy players!

First session, and especially first hour is important. If we can get at least a couple of wickets, we have a good chance. There after it becomes slightly easier to bat.

A remarkable turn around by Fakhar and Sarfraz. Without those two we would’ve in big trouble already. From a hopeless 54/5 Pak did well to turn things around finishing day 1 with a slight edge against Aus.

A few people on here who are after Sarfaraz's captaincy must be thinking now. It's ok to criticize mistakes but spelling a total doom and gloom over a tiny one is not the right way. Some people think batting first is wrong, some feel it's right - the captain and the team management has to do one of the two. Can't keep everyone happy. The players who need to go are Babar Azam from tests. Rest seems good for now, till Hafeez faces Steyn.

When bowling is more reliable, than captain should try to bat first. Reason is obvious. Batting second means, batting last under pressure and chasing the target. With fragile batting line up, batting last also means, under pressure, team could not chase even 100 runs target and thus team loses. On the other hand, if batting first, it means giving target and a team batting first would give target without pressure. In second inning same happens, that is, team plays without much pressure, give target to opposing team, and with runs to chase, pressure would be on other team, and with good bowling, other team could get out and team batting first could win.

@wsyed are you criticizing for the sake of criticism or do you have data and facts to prove your statement? Pakistan is No 1 in T20's. They have become number 5 or 6 in ODI from 9. And in tests, they are pretty much where they were, at 5 or 6 again. So a player who has raised the team in 2 out of three formats needs to go? I think he's the best thing to happen to Pakistan cricket after a long time. Let him play even if he can't score, which by the way he does, and does for the team, unlike Misbah. Pakistan can grow if Sarfaraz is given an extended run for 3-5 years with full authority. Currently, he has his hands tied as the selection committee has a major role in picking players.
