QUETTA: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has said that his party will not accept any undemocratic and unconstitutional act in the country as it believes in democracy and the rule of law.

He was speaking at a public meeting held here on Sunday to pay tribute to PkMAP workers who sacrificed their lives during the Movement for Restoration of Democracy. The party also held such public meetings in other towns and cities of northern Balochistan.

Mr Achakzai said that his party never compromised on democracy and the Constitution. “Our party has the honour of not compromising with any military dictator,” he said.

He said PkMAP leaders and workers were martyred on Oct 7, 1983, when they were participating in a protest procession taken out for restoration of democracy.

He said that Pakistan’s existence and stability depended on supremacy of the constitution, parliament and democracy.

Mr Achakzai said that under the constitution government employees were bound not to interfere in political affairs but officials of some government institutions were not honouring their oath.

He said his party would continue its struggle against violations of the constitution and would not compromise on it.

He said Pakhtuns had always fought for their freedom and no one had a right to teach them lessons in this regard. Their politics remained against elements who exploited rights of small nations, he added.

He said invisible powers had created a new political party in Balochistan and handed over power to it after the general elections, but the move was a blatant violation of the constitution. “We are not ready to live in an undemocratic and unconstitutional country,” he said.

The PkMAP chief said his party believed in total control of parliament over external and internal polices of the country.

He said a peaceful Afghanistan was in the interest of the entire region. He said fencing of the border was tantamount to dividing people because it would create hatred among neighbouring countries.

Mr Achakzai said all countries in the region should play their role for restoration of peace in Afghanistan.

He said Afghans should be given a chance to solve their problems without foreign interferences.
