KARACHI, Jan 10: As part of an integrated package, the government plans to undertake a programme for rehabilitation of human resources with setting up of resource centres in middle or elementary schools all over the country, officials of the Sindh education department told PPI.

A resource centre will be housed in the best middle or elementary school, known for its performance and quality, in each union council of the tehsil/district selected for upgradation of physical facilities of the schools.

Each centre will be provided with adequate resource materials, teaching kits, supplementary reading materials and will be available for consultation and use by teachers of the cluster schools located within the jurisdiction of the union council, the officials added.

Besides, the centres will be suitably equipped with display boards, tables etc. A head teacher of the designated school will serve as a coordinator of the centre and will be paid some honorarium.

The most suitable site for the resource centre at the union council will need to be identified and an agreement with the concerned head teacher reached for its use by the teachers of the cluster schools. Equipping the designated school with all the necessary provisions as a resource centre will cost Rs60,000.

The resource centre will be available on Sundays, holidays, vacations and in the afternoons for meetings and training of teachers, head teachers, school management committees and parent-teacher associations.—PPI
