Power failure delays surgery

PESHAWAR, June 14: Doctors in the Lady Reading Hospital had to postpone many operations on Tuesday because of power failure and non-supply of water, doctors and patients told Dawn . “My grandson’s operation was postponed due to water shortage in the operation theatre,” said Abdul Majeed from Charsadda district.

Doctors in the paediatrics ward said they had to postpone 35 surgeries on Tuesday.

According to them, shortage of electricity and water at the hospital had become a perennial problem, but the administration was not interested in solving it.

“We have sent several complaints to officials, but they have not responded to any of them,” he said.

The situation at the ENT ward was no better where several operations were put off on Tuesday for the same reasons.

Mohammad Anwar from Mardan district said he had been disgusted to learn that his nephew’s operation was put off due to shortage of electricity in the operation theatre.
