KARACHI, June 14: The plastic card driving license system (PCDLS) was formally launched here on Tuesday by the Sindh Home Minister, M.A. Rauf Siddiqui, at the Driving License Branch, Clifton. Speaking on the occasion, he said the traffic department was not paying its due attention towards overcoming traffic jams in the city.

The home minister asserted that the city traffic system had shortcomings that needed to be rectified, but it could only be done when the officials of the department were sincere and performing their duties honestly.

He asked the officials concerned to start “helmet-compulsory” drive for motorcyclists so that the ratio of head injuries during road accidents could be brought down. After one month, the violators would be fined, besides facing stern actions, the minister warned.

In this connection, he said, the helmet manufacturers would be advised not to increase the prices of helmets.
