THE rationalisation of irrational taxation measures like the significant reduction in tax rates granted in the Income Tax Act 2018-19 introduced by the previous government needed to be addressed.
To make things worse, it is a great disappointment that the PTI government went overboard and did away with the restriction on non-filers from buying new cars and real estate above a value of four million rupees in the Finance Supplementary Bill 2018.
Trying to placate and appease tax evaders and allowing them to flaunt their wealth show how the PTI has buckled under pressure. They need to review this aspect which is frustrating for their supporters.

THE government has done a commendable job by allowing non-filers to buy property. It will encourage transactions and increase revenue.
Expatriates invest in residential and commercial plots also. If the taxes on them are drastically reduced, they will be encouraged to send more forex to buy land. It will be better if reasonable tax on land prices is fixed for each housing scheme and locality to simplify taxation and obviate hassles.
This will encourage more transactions, which means more revenue.
