KARACHI: New chief secretary of Sindh, Mumtaz Ali Shah, after assuming his office, left for Islamabad where he, along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, attended the meeting of the Council of Common Interests, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan. He would also attend the meeting of the board of governors of National Counter Terrorism Auth­ority (Nacta) on Tuesday.

Prior to his recent posting, Mumtaz Ali Shah was working as federal secretary religious affairs and inter-faith harmony. He is the 57th chief secretary since 1936 when Sindh was separated from Bombay; after the dissolution of One Unit on July 1, 1970, he is also the 41st chief secretary of Sindh.

A grade-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Services, Shah has served as federal secretary in the ministry of ports and shipping and has also remained chairman of Export Processing Zone Authority. Before his transfer from Sindh to the federal government, he also had served the Sindh government as chairman Anti-Corruption Establishment, administrative secretary, secretary information,

secretary SGA&CD, secretary population welfare, secretary home affairs, DCO Badin, DCO Mirp­urkhas, managing director Sindh Small Industries Corp­oration (SSIC), and at other positions including deputy secretary CM House, divisional and district administration, and secretary works and services.

In the beginning of his career he served as assistant commissioner Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab, and as DCO Nasirabad in Balochistan.

As chief secretary he has taken charge from retired Major Azam Suleman.
