BADIN, June 13: Employees of the Army Welfare Sugar Mill took out a procession on Monday in protest against mill management for not accepting their demands. CBA union general secretary Ali Mohammad Shah led the protestors. About 200 workers marched from the sugar mill gate and reached at the Kazia canal chowk.
They were raising slogans against the mill management.
The workers also observed a sit-in for over three hours and blocked the traffic.
The nazims of UC-I and UC-II and Taluka Nazim Dr Musarrat Hussain Khwaja also joined the protest and expressed solidarity with the workers.
The labour leaders blamed the general manager of the mill for disturbing industrial atmosphere and depriving workers of their rights.
The Taluka nazim said workers’ demands were genuine and should be accepted.
Shahnawaz Siyal and Ali Mohammad Shah also spoke on the occasion.
KILLED: Two people were killed and eight others injured in two separate road accidents in the district on Monday.
According to reports, a Badin-bound bus (JA-8686) coming from Hyderabad while overtaking hit a truck near Dokiya Wah in the Talhar police area.
A passenger Pir Mohammad Shah died on the spot while eight others were injured.
The condition of Dost Mohammad Leghari, a clerk of the Badin DCO office and another official Ashraf Hassan was stated to be critical.
They were admitted to the Hyderabad civil hospital.
The driver Iftikhar Shah fled.
In another incident, Ali Nawaz Leghari, 45, was crushed to death on Monday by a bus (BUA-9520) in Tando Ghulam Ali town.
The driver fled from the scene.
JOBS: Six handicapped people observed a four-hour token hunger strike on the Shah Latif road on Monday in protest against what they called government’s indifference to their problems.
They said the government departments were not implementing two per cent job quota for people with disabilities compelling them to seek alms on roads and markets.
They said they had been deprived of jobs though they were qualified and educated.
They regretted that the departmental heads were treating them as useless citizens.
