MANSEHRA, June 13: Around 15 armed men attacked the Shinkiari police station on Saturday, beat up a complainant, the SHO and two constables. Police sources informed Dawn on Monday that while the complainant in a case under section 324, PPC, Sultan, was present at the police station, the attackers, including Nawaz Khan, Babu Chanzeb, Manzoor and Mahboob, residents of Dhodiyal village, entered the police station and started beating Sultan.

The sources alleged that they also beat up and injured SHO Zulfiqar Jadoon and constables Rafaqat and Asif.

The attackers were detained and a case was registered against them under sections 337, 504, 186, 148 and 149 of the PPC, but they were later released on bail by a court.

According to sources, a political leader of the area made several telephone calls from Peshawar to the DPO Mansehra, asking him not to register the case but his request was turned down.

About background of the incident, sources said that the earlier case had been registered against Chanzeb and others for injuring Sultan, Aasim and others in a quarrel in Dhodiyal.

The accused had acquired bail before arrest from a court and then attacked the complainant in the police station, sources said.
