KARACHI, June 13: A decision has been taken in principle for introducing the Vehicle Identification and Tracking System devised by the National Database Registration Authority in Sindh. Initially, it will be introduced in Karachi and later enforced throughout the province.

The system came under consideration at a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan here on Monday. The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi, Adviser for Excise and Taxation M.A. Jalil, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Nadra Chairman Brig (Rtd) Saleem Ahmed Moeen, IGP Asad Jehangir, Home Secretary Brig (Rtd) Ghulam Muhammed Mohtaram, Secretary Excise and Taxation Mir Hussain Ali, CPLC chief Sharfuddin Memon and other officials.

Ishratul Ibad pointed out that Sindh would be the first province where this devised system would come into force. He said that when the utility and necessity of the project had become clear, it should not be delayed further so that its benefits could reach the people. To ensure expeditious implementation, he said timeframe thereof along with a final line of action would be decided by June 27. —APP
