RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has asked the city police to send personnel on deputation for action against illegal housing societies.

Under the directions of RDA Director General Rana Akbar Hayat, RDA’s building control wing has been conducting operations against illegal commercial and residential construction as well as illegal housing societies.

RDA Director Admin and Finance Rao Atif Raza wrote to the city police officer, requesting that a head constable and four constables be sent to the RDA to carry out enforcement operations.

The request was sent to the local police after an incident of retaliation from housing society guards last week.

RDA spokesperson Mohammad Irfan told Dawn that the civic body had declared a private housing society on Chakri Road illegal and a team had gone to seal its booking office on Friday when they had met with resistance from the guards and the team was forced to retreat.

He said the local police station had not supported the RDA team in sealing the booking office of another illegal housing scheme situated on G.T Road, opposite NLC Camp Office either.
