KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is ready to participate and assist the government in its ambitious plan to build 5 million housing units in the country, said the bank’s Acting President Mr. Tariq Jamali on Monday.

He said that the NBP is ready to play its role in helping the government to achieve its housing target, while mentioning that the bank is also involved in Prime Minister’s Youth Loan scheme initiated by the previous government.

“So far the government has not issued any instruction regarding the housing projects but we are prepared to participate in the scheme that would create big job opportunities also,” said the President NBP.

National Bank won the “Leading Partner Bank in Pakistan Award for 2018” in the Asian Development Bank’s annual Trade Finance Program Awards.

Mr Jamali said that “our exposures in all major sectors have been increasing as we have invested in textile, power, agriculture and others,” adding that non-performing loans are not very high. He said 80 per cent of loans are recovered without effort while 15pc needs special attention for recovery and the rest 5pc create trouble.
