GILGIT: A woman tourist was killed and three others were injured when a landslide hit a van on the Karakoram Highway near Attabad Lake in Hunza district on Saturday.

Police said a van carrying five or six tourists hailing from Dera Ghazi Khan district of Punjab was going to Khunjerab pass. But, the vehicle was hit by a landslide near Attabad tunnel on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, a woman identified as Yasmin Khalid, 41, died on the spot, while her son, Ehsan Khalid, 22, one-year-old Ania Khan and Abdul Aleem Khan, 16, sustained injuries.

The injured were shifted to government hospital, Karimabad, and after first aid there, they were referred to the district headquarters hospital, Gilgit. The condition of the injured was said to be stable.

Police said the body of the victim and the injured would be dispatched to their home town on Monday. According to local people, the portion of Karakoram Highway where the accident occurred had become dangerous as frequent landslides from mountains hit vehicles.
