KARACHI: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Habib Bank Limited both suffered three-day humiliations in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship fixtures on Monday.

ZTBL went down by five wickets to hosts Rawalpindi in the Pool ‘B’ game at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. The latter resumed the penultimate day of the second-round tie at 48-2 and lost just three more wickets in reaching 131-5 to secure six invaluable points. Spinner Asif Ali showed his batting prowess with an unbeaten 68.

HBL needed a miracle to escape defeat but it never materialized since Peshawar were too smart to chalking a thoroughly deserved second success in the championship.

Beginning day three at 19-1 in pursuit of a 158-run target, Peshawar rode on the 91-run stand for the second wicket provided by Sahibzada Farhan (40) and Ashfaq Ahmed (68 not out) to compete a six-wicket success.

Tabish takes 8-41 for PTV

While there was no play in the match between Lahore Whites and NBP at the LCCA Ground because of rain in Lahore, Waleed Ahmed marked his first-class debut at the National Stadium here with six for 155 in 56 overs of hard toil as Karachi Whites struggled to stem the flow of runs from the rampaging SSGCL batsmen.

Waleed, like his famous father Tauseef Ahmed — the former Test cricketer who is is now a national selector — is as an exponent of off-break bowling but the 25-year-old was kept waiting to double his Sunday’s haul by the overnight pair of Fawad Alam and Muzammil Nizam.

Both men reached three figures with Test discard Fawad still batting on 141 after having been at the crease for 504 minutes during which the left-hander faced 390 balls and struck 12 fours. Muzammil scored 103 (202 balls, 14 boundaries) while putting 174 for the fifth with Fawad in 247 minutes.

By stumps, SSGCL had reached 531-9 to enjoy a commanding lead of 193.

Fast bowler Tabish Khan grabbed eight wickets for 41 runs to help PTV bowl out Lahore Blues for 204 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

After PTV closed their second innings at 252-4, Lahore Blues ended the day 19-1 while chasing 308.

Multan were in strife at 98-4 after Wapda fell two short of matching the regional outfit’s first-innings total of 290 at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez snared four for 20 as Fata slumped to 79-6 after following on against holders SNGPL at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Earlier, Test paceman Rahat Ali took 5-78 to help his side dismiss Fata for 266, a tally which included an undefeated 104 (243 balls, 13 fours and two sixes) from Samiullah Jr.
