KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday remanded two men in police custody for three days in an ‘honour’ killing case.

Police arrested Sabir Ullah and Khair Mohammad Khan for killing Sabir’s wife and their teenaged neighbour Federal B Industrial Area on Sunday.

The investigation officer produced them before the judicial magistrate (Central) and sought their custody.

The IO informed the court that during initial interrogation Sabir had confessed to have strangled his wife and the neighbour with the help of her father Khair Mohammad who also confessed to his crime.

Both the detained men had suspicion about her ‘character’.

The magistrate remanded both the suspects in police custody till Sept 14 directing the IO to produce them on the next date along with a progress report.

Bail pleas dismissed

A sessions court (Malir) on Monday dismissed bail applications moved by three detained suspects in a case pertaining to falling of live electric wires on an eight-year-old boy, whose both arms had to be amputated to save his life.

Syed Suleman, Yasir Hafeez and Naeem, said to be employees of a private power firm, moved their bail pleas through their counsel, who argued that they had nothing to do with the alleged offence and pleaded to grant them bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail pleas arguing that the detained men were responsible for allowing illegal electricity connections, better known as kunda in Karachi, and may not be granted bail.

The child’s father alleged that a live electric wire fell on his son Umar on Aug 25 due to which both his arms had to be amputated to save his life.

Several officials of K-Electric and others have been booked in the case against KE-Gadap on the complaint of the boy’s father at the SITE Superhighway Industrial police station.
