KARACHI: Some 390 bachelor’s degrees, 35 master’s and three PhDs were awarded at the 55th convocation of the FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences on the main campus of the university on Saturday.

The bachelor’s degrees were awarded in three disciplines — business administration, computer science and electrical engineering — while master’s degrees were awarded in four disciplines — computer science, computer networks and security, software project management, electrical engineering.

The PhDs were awarded in computer science.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were also awarded to position holders. Farrukh Shehzad (gold), Arsalan Tahir (silver) and Umer Farooq (bronze) were decorated with medals in the BBA programme.

Shees Nadeem (gold), Maha Aziz (silver) and Alishah Pervez (bronze) were awarded medals in the BS computer science programme.

In the BS electrical programme Mohammad Ali (gold), Mohammad Omar Qureshi (silver) and Ibtehaj Mohiuddin (bronze) were medal recipients.

On the occasion, Rector of the university Prof Dr M. Ayub Alvi spoke about the role of parents in successful lives of students for which they should always remain thankful to them.

He highlighted the role of young professionals in the progress of the country’s economy.

Dean and director of the campus Prof Dr Hasina Khatoon congratulated the graduates and their parents.

Former Federal Infor­mation Minister and Senator Javed Jabbar, the chief guest of the first session, in his talk emphasised the importance of higher education.

Former Senator Nisar A. Memon, the chief guest of the second session, reminded the graduates about their important role in the development of the country.
