HYDERABAD: Te­ac­hers, officials of education department, activists of civil society organisations and a large number of students took part in rallies taken out in several Sindh towns on Saturday to mark the International Literacy Day whose theme this year was ‘literacy and skills development’.

In Hyderabad, students attired in uniforms and teachers of 42 government schools, officers of education department marched from Circular Building to the press club, carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans for literacy.

District education officer (DEO) Saeed Ahmed Noon­ari, Government Secondary Tea­c­hers Association leader Mehmood Ahmed Chauhan and others who led the rally said that quality education was gateway to success.

They said that everyone ought to strive to ensure that no child, particularly girls, was out of school. “Teachers always lead nations as they train students who play an important role in the betterment of society,” they said.

SUKKUR: The district education department organised a rally which marched on different roads before terminating at the press club where director of schools education Azizullah Hakro and others spoke on the importance of celebrating the day.

They urged parents to enrol their children in government schools where books were being provided free of cost so that all children, regardless of their social status, could grow into productive citizens and be able to play a positive role for society.

They stressed the need for promoting and raising the standard of education in order to better “equip our children with modern knowledge”.

MIRPURKHAS: A large number of students, teachers, officials of education department, activists of NGOs, traders and general public took out a rally to mark the day.

The rally marched to the local press club where DEO Ghulam Nabi Sehar and director of schools Abdul Ghaffar Rajput delivered speeches before the participants and stressed the need for raising number of enrolments of children who were out of schools.

They said that every individual should play his or her role to help the government achieve 100 per cent literacy rate and enable the country to compete with other nations on international level.

BADIN: The National Commission for Human Development and the education department jointly organised a rally to highlight the importance of education on the occasion of International Literacy Day.

The rally led by officers of the two entities marched to the press club where they addressed the participants. They advised students to take their studies seriously and asked teachers to fulfil their responsibilities honestly and devotedly.

MITHI: A large number of students, teachers and members of Thar Education Alliance brought out rallies in Mithi, Islamkot, Chha­chhro, Diplo, Kaloi, Nagar­parkar, Dahli, Chelhar and other towns to mark the world Literacy Day.
