LAHORE: Customs authorities seized on Tuesday smuggled smart phones worth Rs25 million being transported in a van by two smugglers for onward supply to various city markets.

According to a spokesperson for Customs, their anti-smuggling wing stopped a van and found 3,500 Android phones of assorted brands and models in it that were kept in hidden portions of the van.

The department has also seized precious non-custom paid valuables in the last seven days.

“During various raids, the officials of Customs’ anti smuggling wing seized Mercedes Benz (E-300 car, 2002 model), Honda (2010), ball bearings (3,500 Kg), 100 bags (5,000 Kg) of tamarind (Imli), grocery items (145 bags), shampoo (80 boxes) and cigarettes of assorted brand (35 box),” the spokesman said in a press release.

On Monday, the wing seized smuggled welding electrodes weighing 20,554 kg and betel nuts (696 kg).

“The approximate value of the goods is over Rs22 million,|” the spokesman added.

LWMC: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) launched multiple awareness drives to sensitize the public about the importance of cleanliness at GPO Chowk, Bhati Chowk and in surroundings of Data Darbar.

This is according to a press release by the LWMC. Moreover, he said, the LWMC enforcement wing imposed a Rs154,000 fine on more than 132 people for illegal dumping of waste/littering.
