KARACHI: The West Pakistan Government is seeking control of the arms manufacturing factories of the tribal areas in a new bid to curb crimes in the province.

This was disclosed by the Provincial Home Minister Kazi Fazlullah while talking to newsmen on his arrival in Karachi from Larkana by train last evening [Sept3].

The Minister thought that illicit arms traffic from the agencies was one of the causes of rising murder cases in the settled areas of West Pakistan.

To check smuggling of firearms, the Provincial Government has moved the Centre that factories producing firearms in the former NWFP areas be placed under its control, he said.

Mr Fazlullah said the campaign launched by the Provincial Government recently had brought down the number of murder cases to “a very great extent”. Talking of the general crime situation, the Home Minister said it was well under control. However, he said, according to a recent London “Economist” report, crime cases even in a civilised society like the United States were five times greater than any other country of the world.
