LANDI KOTAL: Emergency was declared in the affected locality after two persons died in Landi Kotal due to Congo fever, doctors said.

They said that Salman Khan was brought to the local hospital with high fever and was immediately shifted to Peshawar due to his critical condition. Later, he was taken to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad where he died. He was tested positive for Congo fever, they added.

Family sources said that Salman, a resident of Peerokhel locality, had slaughtered a number of sacrificial animals on Eidul Azha day and had also spent some time in the local cattle market before the Eid.

The doctors said that Khan Haider, another resident of the same locality, also died on Sunday with symptoms of Congo fever. His final medical report will be released on Monday.

The relatives of Khan Haider said that he was the only bread earner of his family. They said that his wife was also suffering from high fever.

The local health authorities declared emergency in Peerokhel locality by keeping the entire population under strict observation. The body temperature of all the local people is being checked constantly.

Schools and markets in the locality were shut down while residents were advised to wear gloves and cover their mouths and noses with masks.

In Jamrud, health authorities claimed to have checked the rapid spread of dengue virus and complained at the same time that local are not cooperating in eradication of dengue larva.

Agency Surgeon Dr. Shafeeq told Dawn that dengue lava was found in houses where they had already conducted repeated fumigation and advised the residents to keep their water containers covered.

He said that at least three persons were taken into custody after detection of dengue larva inside their houses in open water containers. He said that nearly 300 health workers were running door- to-door awareness and dengue eradication campaign in different localities of Jamrud.

Most of the total 95 dengue cases were reported from Teddi Bazaar, Naee Abadi and Shah Kas localities. Authorities have also imposed Section 144 to spread dengue fever in Jamrud.
