RAWALPINDI: Two Adiala jail officials were suspended after a male warden accused them of rape.

Punjab Inspector General Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig also launched an inquiry against the two officials under the Punjab Employee Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act, 2017.

IG Baig appointed DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Naveed Rauf as inquiry officer and asked him to submit a report within two months.

In a letter available with Dawn, the IG Prisons directed the accused officials to submit a written defence within the prescribed period or it will be “presumed that either they have no defence to offer or have declined to offer the same and have accepted the charges”.

The inquiry was launched by the prison department after the warden lodged a complaint with Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal.

He is reported to have said that he was also threatened to not tell anyone about the assault by the accused officials.
