PTI nominates Dr Ameer Muhammad Khan Jogezai as Governor of Balochistan

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) finalised the name of Dr Ameer Muhammad Khan Jogezai as the Governor of Balochistan after Prime Minister Imran Khan formally sanctioned his name following a party meeting on Saturday, DawnNewsTV reported.

Dr Ameer Jogezai is a paediatrician by profession, said to have more than 30 years experience in the field of paediatric medicine. He has also served as the Registrar in Bolan Medical College, Quetta.

It is pertinent to mention that in 2015 the National Accountability Bureau initiated an inquiry against Dr Ameer Jogezai, the then chief executive officer of Kidney Centre, Quetta.

The accountability watchdog had said that Jogezai was allegedly involved in embezzlement in the procurement of medical equipment and misappropriation of funds released for the Kidney Centre that caused a loss of Rs61 million to the national exchequer. According to DawnNewsTV, the inquiry is still underway.

Dr Ameer Jogezai's elder brother Sardar Gul Mohammad Khan Jogezai has also served as the Balochistan governor from 1991 to 1994.

Following the July 25 general elections, a six-party alliance comprising Balochistan Awami Party, Awami National Party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Hazara Democratic Party, Balochistan National Party-Awami and Jamhoori Watan Party formed the government in Balochistan.

Judging from the news item, elevating & posting someone accused of corruption to the post of governor of a province is an eyebrow raiser & does not enhance the accepted image of new government set out to eradicate corruption from government machinery. This event may provide live ammunition to the opposition who will leave no stone unturned to tarnish the image of PTI, which is picking up on opposition for their past corruption. It is unfortunate to see political expediency in play by the ruling party in Baluchistan, & may prove to be nonstarter for any substantial improvement in governess what people of this backward province are anxiously looking for after all these years of neglect, injustices, corruption in high places & underdevelopment in general.The PTI may have or have not assessed the political fallout of their decision but keeping in view the local political preferences, this selection is seen as a possible attempt to buy out a desired influence in the political ruling setup

He will face the law.if PM can than why cannot a governer. Don't just dig into everything. It's not necessary that he got that 61 million into his pocket.3 years have passed and NAB is still thinking.they should also speed up justice

The tragedy in our society is that it is very difficult if not impossible to find a completely clean record individual because the moral values and decency have been eroded in our nation. We must all accept our individual responsibility on this and start reforming our character and conduct. We must cease bringing false cases against individuals to seek our revenge for the perceived injustice that they have done. We must not use underhand tactics to deal our opponents. If we as individuals and groups change,reform and alter our attitudes and behaviour then the whole society will change . The longest journey starts with a single step!

It is sad that he is appointed as governor while there is case against him. But we all need to know why in three years NAB has not concluded the investigation. Cases should not hang over people for a long time especially if they happened to be innocent.
