RAWALPINDI: The Central Communications Minister, Khan A. Sabur, expressed his profound shock over the sad demise of Maulana Akram Khan in Dacca last evening [Aug 18].

He said the Maulana’s contribution to the creation of Pakistan and his services as the first President of the Muslim League, re-organised under the leadership of the Quaid-i-Azam, would always be remembered with great respect.

He was a fearless fighter for the cause of the Muslims in general and the Muslims of Bengal in particular. The Minister said: “He set standards of journalism which remain as a model. I am sure the whole nation will join with me to mourn his death.”

Mr A.H.M.S. Doha, Central Minister for Agriculture and Works, said that he had known the Maulana for about 30 years and he was highly respected among those who knew him. The Minister said: “The Maulana’s contribution to Pakistan and Muslim culture was almost unparalleled and the gap created by the death of this fighter could not be filled.”

He said Maulana Akram Khan published his paper, the daily Azad, in a way that it reflected Muslim culture. He also made a great religious contribution by publishing the Bengali translation of the Holy Quran.
