KARACHI: Couple of changes including the post of chairman is likely to take place when the electoral 29th annual general body meeting of the Karachi Race Club (KRC) takes place at the club’s premises on Saturday.

The house is expected to elect a new honorary chairman in place of Dr. Farhan Essa who has tendered his resignation recently after serving for five months, sources told Dawn.

Besides, KRC stewards Imamuddin Shouqeen, Faisal Farooq, Kamal Farooq, Javed Karim and Yaqoob Habib are likely to be replaced with new faces.

Faisal has moved to UAE, Kamal is bed-ridden while Shouqeen, Karim and Habib have been inactice.

The meeting is likely to elect a 10-member managing committee — eight stewards, a president and a chairman. The committee will nominate three elected persons to represent KRC in the Jockey Club of Pakistan (JCP).

Incumbent president Syed Sadruddin Shah, his son Syed Ismail Shah, Irfan Mehdi and Tajammul Hussain Mirza are tipped to retain their posts.

The electoral meeting is taking place after almost four years. It may be mentioned that the last meeting was held on Dec six, 2014.

This is for the first time that contrary to one year, the term of office-bearers was stretched after the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) gave its nod. The KRC is likely to revert to the one-year term (2018-2019), sources said.

It is pertinent to mention that Sadruddin Shah aka Younus Sain, who has a passion for horse racing, had completed a decade in office having come at the helm of affairs in 2008. His elder brother Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara, a prominent owner of racong horses, is the patron-in-chief of the club.
