KARACHI: A man was shot dead by suspected robbers over putting up resistance to a robbery bid in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday morning, police said.

They added that Ishfaq Ahmed, 37, was passing through a street in Bilal Colony when armed motorcyclists tried to snatch cash and other valuables from him. When he put up resistance the armed men opened fire on him and fled along with the looted items, said area SHO Jamal Leghari. The incident occurred at around 10.20am.

The robbery victim sustained critical bullet wounds on his chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment, added the SHO.

Suspect killed in ‘encounter’

A suspect was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Zaman Town late on Thursday night, police said.

They added that two suspects riding a motorbike came from a congested street in Sector 50-C and opened fire on a police mobile upon seeing it.

The police returned fire and during the exchange of gunfire one unidentified suspect was killed, said Zaman Town SHO Anzar Alam.

The police recovered one stolen motorbike and a pistol from him. His accomplice escaped.

The officer believed that after committing robbery the suspects were fleeing when the encounter occurred.
