KARACHI, June 8: The Sindh Minister for Culture, Social Welfare and Tourism, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, has said the present government has taken long-term revolutionary steps to provide basic amenities to special persons. This he said while speaking as chief guest at a function held by the Organization for the Welfare of the Special Persons (OWSP) on Wednesday.

The minister spoke on steps taken by the present government for the disabled and said that plans for their welfare were under way so as to integrate them with society.

Also referring to the recent resolution unanimously passed by the Sindh Assembly, demanding three per cent job quota for special persons, he said that his department had forwarded recommendations to the federal government for an increase in the said quota.

He urged the organization to come forward with new ideas and work plans for their economic uplift, assuring them that he would consider all ideas, and help find solutions to all problems of special persons.

Also speaking, former Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Shahida Jameel informed that she had discussed the problems of special persons with President Pervez Musharraf, adding that the President was very much keen to resolve them.

She urged the normal people to extend their efforts for the rehabilitation of the disabled.

President of the OWSP K.M. Jamaluddin, its Secretary Andil Rashdi, Ahmed A Sattar and Mustafa Kamal also spoke.—PPI
