List of MNAs elected on reserved seats for women, minorities

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday notified members of the National Assembly elected on reserved seats for women and minorities.

The following is the province-wise list of women elected on reserved seats from various political parties.

Punjab: Dr Shireen Mazari, Munaza Hassan, Andaleeb Abbas, Asma Hadeed, Aliya Hamza Malik, Javaria Zafar, Kanwal Shauzab, Dr Seemin Abdul Rehman Bokhari, Sobia Kamal Khan, Nousheen Hamid, Rubina Jamil, Maliha Ali Bokhari, Fauzia Behram, Rukhsana Naveed, Tashfeen Safdar and Wajiha Akram of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Tahira Aurangzeb, Shaisata Pervez, Ayesha Rajab Ali, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Kiran Imran Dar, Romina Khursheed Alam, Mussarat Asif Khawaja, Zeb Jafar, Samina Matloob, Shahnaz Saleem Malik, Seema Mohiyuddin and Maiza Hameed of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Hina Rabbani Khar of the Pakistan Peoples Party and Farrukh Khan of PML-Quaid.

Sindh: Shagufta Jummani, Shazia Marri, Musarrat Naz Baloch, Shahida Rehmani, Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto, Dr Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro and Shamim Ara Panhwar of the PPP.

Syma Nadeem, Ghazala Saifi, Nuzhat Pathan and Nusrat Wahid of the PTI.

Kishwar Zehra of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Saira Bano of the Grand Democratic Alliance.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Nafeesa Inayatullah Khattak, Sajida Begum, Noreen Farooq, Shandana Gulzar, Uzma Riaz and Zile Huma of the PTI.

Shahida Begum of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and Begum Tahira Bukhari of the PML-N.

Balochistan: Aliya Kamran of the MMA, Rubina Irfan of the Balochistan Awami Party, Shahnaz Naseer Baloch of the Balochistan National Party and Munawara Bibi Baloch of PTI.

Minorities: Lal Chand, Shunila Ruth, Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Jai Parkash and Jamshed Thomas of the PTI. Dr Darshan and Kesoo Mai Kheeal Das of the PML-N. Ramesh Lal and Naveed Aamir of the PPP and James Iqbal of the MMA.

There must be only elected members, no pick and choose. There may be specific seats for certain categories to be elected by voters, not nominated.

If women seats are not awarded on merit and this clause is used to promote nepotism and political bribery we need to amend the constitution .Women talent should be encouraged to come forward and contest on general seats.Qualified women deserve to be in the assembly.I see some serious flaws in present list.

The first example of Nawaz's family hypocricy is evident here. Nawaz Sharif is talking about 'vote ko izzat do' and all women who are selected on reserved seats from PMLN either belong to his close friends or family members. So shame on Nawaz Sharif for playing double games. Vote ko izzat do is infact 'dost or rishtidaar ko izzat do' for Nawaz Sharif.

So almost all women members from all all Parties ( including PMLN, PTI, PPP ) etc are infact the daughters, wives and granddaughters of prominent politicians. Welcome to the mirage of democary. This is not democracy, but just a sham where powerful are making the collective fool of the masses.

Obviously we can see the quality of assembly and work improving with these selections. Not a single one could make it on their own merit in any other country. These seats were meant to improve quality of the assembly by injecting qualified people that cannot run for elections and also give women a chance but its all in the family here.

Reserved seats for women are against the spirit of democracy and must be done away with. Selection of women on reserved seats is a worst example of nepotism and favouritism. How many women from poorer / middle class backgrounds, who are socially active but can't afford to contest general seats have ever been selected on reserved seats? The best way to increase women representation in the parliament is to increase women quota on general seats, with party funding being provided to those who can't afford to run election compaigns rather than accommodating favourites, relatives of politicians and those defeated in the general elections.
