APROPOS the letter (Aug 5). I would also like to share my experience of an honest shopkeeper of Karachi.
A few months ago I went to a small shop in Neelum Colony in Clifton to buy a light bulb. The bulb cost Rs125. I gave the shopkeeper a 1000-rupeesnote and left the shop forgetting to take the balance.
Three months later I went to the same shop to purchase another bulb. I was astonished when the shopkeeper handed me an envelope that contained Rs875 and said: “Baji you forgot to take the balance the last time you came to my shop.
This shop is a very small one and is located in a very humble neighbourhood. This shopkeeper must be working long hours to keep body and soul together. I was touched to the core of my heart by his honesty and could not pick up the courage to offer a reward when I saw the serene but determined look on his face.
If all people in the country act in the manner of this shopkeeper, then the day is not far that Pakistan will achieve what Quaid-i-Azam had envisioned for this country.
