SHANGLA: At least eight people, including three policemen, were injured when a scuffle broke out between the police and supporters of Puran tehsil nazim outside the Aloch police station here on Friday night over a demand of the latter to register a theft case against the driver of local assistant commissioner.

Local people said that the nazim and his supporters reached the police station where the nazim’s car was parked.

They started a protest and alleged that the driver of the assistant commissioner was trying to steal tyres from the nazim’s vehicle and that a case be registered against him.

As the protesters became unruly, the police resorted to baton charge to disperse them.

However, this led to scuffles between the protesters and police which left several people, including policemen, injured. The injured also included sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Zerab Gul.

According to tehsil nazim Abdul Nasar, his jeep (Shangla-1001) was parked outside the police station, Aloch, where the AC’s driver allegedly attempted to steal its tyres. He claimed that the local people informed him about the incident.

The nazim said that the police did not allow him to enter the police station when he reached there, which led to the scuffle.

He claimed that the police refused to register FIR against the alleged robber.

When contacted, deputy commissioner Tashfeen said that Mr Nasar was yet to be notified as tehsil nazim by the election commission.

He said he would not allow anyone to use the government property before issuance of notification of the nazim. However, the DC said the matter was being investigated.

When contacted, SDPO Zerab Gul said that they were trying to sort out the issue through a jirga.

SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar on Saturday urged the youth of Shangla and Battagram to work for stability and prosperity of the country.

Chairperson of Istehkam-i-Pakistan Sajida Ahmed, its president Mansoor Baloch and others spoke on the occasion.

“Our movement has an aim to work for the welfare and development of the youth besides creating job opportunities for them so that they could play their role in progress of the country,” Ms Sajida said.
