SHANGLA: PML-N member Abdul Nasar Khan was elected nazim of Puran tehsil in the elections for the seat here on Thursday.

The seat fell vacant after arrest of former tehsil nazim Raja Usman Ali by National Accountability Bureau in a corruption case about six months ago. The elections were held in the tehsil council with convener Gohar Ali in the chair.

Of 12 tehsil councilors, only two polled their votes against Abdul Nasar Khan. All the remaining coucillors voted for him to elect him tehsil nazim.

Mr Nasar was elected member of tehsil council from Bengalai union council in the local government elections in 2015. He is a senior local leader of PML-N and a close relative of its provincial president Amir Muqam.

The newly elected nazim thanked the councillors for their trust in him. He said that he would work for the prosperity and development of Puran tehsil. He said that he would never give a chance to the councillors to complain as he would distribute all the funds among them equally.

SEMINAR: Dr Riaz Khan, the district health officer, has said breastfeeding plays vital role in health of children. He was addressing a seminar at DHO office here on Thursday. Health experts Dr Abdul Samad and others also spoke on the occasion.

The speakers urged the participants to create awareness among women about the importance and benefits of breastfeeding. They said that breastfeeding was helpful for both mothers and children.

RALLY: Police and members of civil society tagged a rally at Alpuri Bazaar to pay tributes to martyrs of police department.

The rally, led by DPO Rasool Shah Khan, was started from district headquarters hospital Alpuri and ended at DPO office. The DPO and other police officials also donated blood on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the DPO said that they would never forget their fallen comrades, who sacrificed their lives for restoration of peace in the country.
