KARACHI: On a day of upsets, both Lahore outfits suffered embarrassing defeats in their first-round fixtures of the PCB Under-19 Inter-region cricket tournament on Wednesday, while Karachi Blues also lost to the unheralded Abbottabad.

Lahore Whites were in for a shock at the National Ground in Islamabad where Quetta pulled off an 80-run triumph by bowling out their opponents for just 97 with Junaid Khan producing a fine all-round performance. He scored 63 in Quetta’s total of 177 before picking up five wickets for 30 runs.

Highly-rated Saim Ayub slammed an 80-ball 100 with the aid of seven fours and five sixes as Karachi Whites reached 256-8 after their Group ‘A’ fixture against Fata was curtailed to 38 overs per side. Fata, in reply, managed 225-9 to lose by 31 runs.

In the ‘local’ derby at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Islamabad upstaged Rawalpindi by four wickets.

In the Group ‘B’ game at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, Peshawar beat Lahore Blues by 43 runs, while Abbottabad clinched a notable 89-run win against Karachi Blues at the National Stadium.

The day’s biggest win was achieved by Faisalabad who trounced Azad Jammu Kashmir by 151 runs, while Sialkot sealed a thrilling eight-run win over Multan at the NBP Sports Complex.
