PESHAWAR, June 5: A university needs to aim at maintaining excellence and achieving tangible goals. This was stated by Dr G. M. Khattak, ex-vice chancellor University of Peshawar, while delivering a lecture on ‘Objectives of a University’ here on Friday at the university’s conference hall.

The lecture was organized by newly established forum of the university, ‘Academia Views’. Heads of departments, faculty members, scholars and students attended the lecture.

Dr Khattak said that for maintenance of excellence or to move towards a higher level of quality a vision — a combination of guts, values and tangible goals — is a must. It enables academia to think seriously about the purposes, priorities and distinctiveness of their institutions, he added.

He said that values should be a part of the university traditions which a majority of people on campus subscribe. If values articulated in a vision are too idealistic or vague the vision is treated cynically, so they must also have tangible out come.

He was of the view that a vision for betterment of a university should be an inspiring picture of a different future.
