Lahore sizzles at 44.8oC

Published June 6, 2005

LAHORE, June 5: Lahore like other parts of Punjab is in the grip of severe heat with the mercury soaring to 44.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The mercury has constantly been rising since the start of June and weather pundits have forecast hot and dry weather for most parts of the province. They have also predicted further rise in the temperature.

Meanwhile, hospitals in the city have received over 70 patients with heat-related problems.

Most of the victims suffered from dehydration and fainted who were later shifted to different hospitals, including the Mayo, Services, Ganga Ram and Munshi Trust hospitals.

Except for two people, who have been kept under observation at the Mayo and Services, all have been discharged after first aid. Doctors have advised people to take pre-cautions. They say children should be kept indoors as they are more prone to sun-stroke.—APP
