KARACHI, June 5: The Goethe Institut will screen the works of the third generation Turkish-German filmmakers from Monday. In all, eight movies will be screened.

The screening of each movie will be preceded by a retrospective of Karl Valentin (1882-1948) who has been described as the German Charlie Chaplin on account of his pioneering contribution towards the establishment of the German movie industry.

The first movie of the festival, which will be screened on Monday, is called “I think about Germany: we forgot to go back.” This movie has been directed by Faith Akin, who has been making films in Hamburg for the past 10 years.

A German filmmaker of Turkish descent, Akin wrote and directed his first short feature, “Sensis: you’re the one”, in 1995. The movie received the Audience Award at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival. His first full-length feature film, “Short sharp shock”, won the Bronze Leopard at Locarno and the Bavarian Film Award (Best young director) in 1998.

The second movie of the festival, which will be screened on Thursday, is called “Dealer.” The film is directed by Thomas Arslan, who was born in 1962 and has been working as a writer and filmmaker since 1992.
