Bar cancels membership

GUJRANWALA, Jan 9: The Punjab Bar Council withdrew its order of restoration of the memberships of 14 lawyers of Gujranwala who were suspended on the charge of violating a Bar resolution on Wednesday.

The Bar association suspended the memberships of the lawyers about a year ago when they favoured the then district and sessions judge in violation of the Bar’s resolution.

They moved the PBC executive committee which restored their membership and ordered the Gujranwala Bar to allow them cast their votes in annual elections about two weeks ago.

But the Bar association convened a meeting here on Wednesday which was presided over by its president Naveed Anwar Naveed and put up the issue of restoration of their membership to the PBC executive committee which unanimously declined to restore their membership and informed the PBC accordingly. The Gujranwala Bar annual election will be held on Saturday.
