KHAIRPUR: Local Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership enforced a partial strike in Khairpur on Sunday after the Pir Jo Goth incident, in which 10 workers and supporters of the party and its rival Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) were injured earlier in the day.

Reports from Pir Jo Goth — the native village of GDA chief Pir Pagara — suggested that provocative slogans raised by the rival groups against each other caused a clash which left 10 persons from both groups injured.

Clubs and bricks were freely by the embattled groups. Several vehicles were damaged during the violent incident.

Both sides accused each other of resorting to violence first. Saner elements intervened to bring an end to the fight.

Later, charged PPP activists and supporters proceeded to the nearby Shah Hussain bypass to hold a protest demonstration against the rival side’s unruly behaviour.
