TOBA TEK SINGH: Speaking at a large gathering organised by Awami Workers Party (AWP) at Adda Chak 306-GB late on Friday, its spokesperson Farooq Tariq claimed that all major political parties have lost the confidence of the working class.

Mr Tariq said major political parties were working for the interest of the super rich one per cent of the population.

He added that mainstream parties were able to divide the working class on the basis of religion, sectarianism and race.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), he claimed that the military, judiciary and civilian establishment were doing their best to create favourable conditions for their favourite party. The PTI was now thoroughly a party of the super rich of society. If it came into powaer it will herald the worst time for the working class of Pakistan, he stated.

He said the PML-N had also implemented a “neo-liberal agenda” and focused on industrial infrastructure neglecting human development, however the AWP had emerged as an alternative political party for the working class in Pakistan.

Party’s candidate for PP-121 Chaudhry Zubair said he and his party activists were available at all times to serve the peasantry, while their opponents appeared only during election times. One of the main agendas of his party would be to help peasants get enough water for their crops as the area was facing acute irrigation and drinking water shortage.

Veteran peasant leader Chaudhry Fatah Mohammed, 95, also attended the meeting briefly.

Dr Taimur Rahman and his band energised the audience with revolutionary songs.
